Artist Statement:
I have a great affection for that fragment of a memory.
That scene that I framed inside a photograph, that instantly becomes part of me.
The memory of a person who saw my photography, it becomes part of that person.
The instant a photograph comes to life, its scene belongs to the past.
The instant I look at a photograph, that belongs to the world.
It becomes something, a common memory between me and who else shared it with me.
I hold dear that ephemeral instant of the past connected to a memory.
I believe each past has that precious instant.
SAKI OTSUKA
Drawn to creating since childhood, I continue to create while living with complicated post-traumatic stress disorder (c-PTSD), which developed at the age of 15. I carry out each creative endeavor with a consistent message of “I am here”. As a photographer, I aim to translate the power that emanates from my core into objective photographs. My installations and other works are diverse. I am from Tokyo. Female.
SAKI OTSUKA’s 4th photobook, "I am here" will be released from Libro Arte in September 2023.
